Spring Market Recap

Like I mentioned in a few previous posts, I attended the Luckett's Spring Market this weekend. The only way I can describe it is a vintage/shabby chic outdoor market. And I am TOTALLY into that type of stuff. I went 2 years ago, and don't remember it being as crowded with people and great stuff! There were so many great vendors, it was like sensory overload. I didn't know where to look first! I was so busy looking at all the great stuff, that I flaked out and forgot to take as many pictures that I had hoped to. But here is a brief recap...

They had a ton of great shabby chic pieces, including old signs.
I fell in love with this vintage clock, but didn't purchase. I would need to build on to our house in the 'burbs to house this thing.
Lot's of awesome stuff!
And you could tell that the vendors put A LOT of thought into displaying there goods. Everything looked adorbs!
I also fell in love with this fun shed. It would look great in our back yard - totally not functional for our needs and expensive....$4,900! Ouch! Hey, a girl can dream, right?
And the best part of all is that I got to meet Miss Mustard Seed of Mustard Seed CreationsI was so excited to meet her, that I had a blonde moment (surprise) and forgot to ask to get a picture with her.
But anyway, she's as super nice and fun in person as she comes across in her blog.  Love her. And her booth and all of her goods looked great! I scored this pair of shutters from her Lucketts "shack", aren't the great?
I love the rusted metal latch. I haven't figured out where to hang them yet - so stay tuned for an update! I also made several other purchases as well, but haven't photographed them yet. I'm a bit behind. But wanted to share my review of the FAB Luckett's Spring Market with you all. It was full of great stuff - I was drooling over everything I saw. Can't wait for the Luckett's Fair in August!

I Survived

When the prospect of turning the big 3-0 last year was staring me in the face, I was terrified. Terrified to leave the twenty-something years behind.

But here we are today, another birthday....as my Gramps would say, "it's the 3rd anniversary of my 10th birthday....plus one"! I survived my 30th year and it wasn't bad at all. Although I feel old - only on paper - I feel like a kid at heart. And I would like to hold on to that forever. Do we ever grow out of that?

Although I had to work today - I came in to find this on my desk this morning...
A cupcake from one of THE best bakeries around town! Yummo!

And one of my co-workers made me this sign to spruce up my cube...
I have some of the sweetest co-workers around :)

Then the birthday festivities continued once I got home. The hubs greeted me with a bouquet of my favorite flowers!
And the hubs outdid himself...he S L A V E D over making this birthday cake for me. He did get a little help from Betty Crocker, and is the only person to wear more of the cake batter on his shirt than goes into the actual cake. It was baked and iced with love. Check it out...
And then a certain someone (ME!) didn't push the cake far enough back on the counter after snapping the above photo....and another certain someone felt the need to sample the cake. UH OH.
Hang your head in shame, Emmit.
But we didn't let that stop the birthday celebration!
Happy birthday to me!

On Your Mark, Get Set....

On your mark, get set...SHOP!

I've been training waiting all year for the Lucketts Spring Market and it's finally coming up this weekend! I can't wait. I already told the hubs that he may have to restrain me from wanting to purchase everything in sight....I'm not joking. It happens to be my birthday weekend - so hoping to be extra lucky in finding some great things. Of course I will have my camera in tow and promise to share my photos with you next week. Hope I can fit all my purchases into our Jeep! Wish me luck!

Peonies!

Peonies have been a long time favorite of mine. Their large layered blooms make me happy. These pretty flowers even made up my wedding bouquet. I wish I could have frozen these flowers in time and still had them to admire today...

I adore these flowers so much, that the hubs and I even planted some in our front garden. These are not the best photos, but you get the idea...
My absolute favorite is this one (below) with pale pink petals and yellow on the inside.

This particular variety is also one of the most fragrant flowers I have ever smelled! Doesn't it just put a smile on your face?!

Happy 'Burbversary

It's hard to believe that exactly 2 years ago, the hubs and I were at the closing for our new house in the 'burbs. I remember sitting across a large conference table from the sellers, a young/middle age couple with 2 young children, feeling like I was about 12 years old about to cross the threshold to official adulthood. Frightening. Needless to say, we've learned A LOT over the past two years owning a single family home in the 'burbs. Just to name a few...

We've learned:
  • Call all utility companies BEFORE you close on a property to put services into your name. This will eliminate any and all episodes of tears and pleading with the not-so-nice power company man to NOT shut off your power
  • How to replace a thermostat
  • Keep a plumber on speed-dial!
  • The art of 'burb ettiqette
  • A power washer is a super fun tool to use - who knew!?
  • Living with a 1960's kitchen is OK. It's outdated, but fully functioning (knock on wood) and most importantly, ours.
  • A little fresh paint goes a along way
  • How to capture a vole that somehow ends up in your house
  • What a pilot light is, how to re-light one and why you need one
  • Weekends are full of housework and yardwork - and that's OK
  • "Home is where your story begins" - so true!

Credit goes to my mother-in-law for sharing this video with me. I think this video is quite possibly THE FUNNIEST thing I have EVER seen. Here's a little laugh to help you get through a Monday!
